Tasting Notes
Flavour Profile
Aroma (Nose)
Madagascan vanilla leads. Rich, creamy, immediate. Ceylon cinnamon and toasted bourbon oak follow. Orange peel cuts through and lifts the whole thing. Clove and allspice settle underneath, adding depth without dominating.
Palate (Taste)
Naturally sweet upfront, from agave syrup. Ginger heat, cassia bark and layered baking spice come through in the middle. Citrus reappears mid-palate, cutting the richness with a clean, zesty edge.
Finish
Long and warming. Oak tannins settle with vanilla and winter spice, ginger trailing behind. Clean, gently dry, and built for sipping.
Professional Tip
Serve over a large ice cube with an orange peel twist. The slow dilution opens up the spice complexity. The citrus oils from the peel work well against the vanilla.
Production Process
Made in small batches at Spirit of Wales Distillery in Newport, South Wales. We start with Caribbean rum as the base, then steep it with real botanicals: Madagascan vanilla pods, Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, orange peel, cassia bark, cloves, and allspice. Each botanical is given proper time before we move on. We sweeten with agave syrup. Natural, not excessive. A small amount of glucose syrup is added for mouthfeel, giving the spirit its characteristic silky texture without adding noticeable sweetness. The rum then rests on bourbon barrel chips, picking up soft oak and a note of caramel warmth. Every batch is tasted multiple times before it leaves. No shortcuts at any stage.

Common questions about Jerry Can Spirits - Expedition Spiced Rum
What does Expedition Spiced Rum taste like?
Vanilla and cinnamon on the nose, warm and immediate. The palate is naturally sweet from agave syrup, moving into ginger, cassia and layered baking spice. The finish is long, warming and dry, with oak and vanilla lingering and a trail of ginger at the end.
How should I drink it?
Neat or over ice. A large cube slows the dilution and opens up the spice. An orange peel garnish works well against the vanilla. It also holds its character in cocktails and pairs cleanly with cola and lime.
What's the ABV?
40% ABV - standard strength for sipping or mixing.
How long does it last once opened?
Indefinitely, if stored properly. Keep it upright and away from direct sunlight. The flavour may soften gradually over several years, but it won't spoil.
Where is it made?
At Spirit of Wales Distillery in Newport, South Wales. The base rum comes from the Caribbean. Maceration, blending and bottling all happen in Wales.
Is it vegan?
Yes. No animal products are used at any stage of production. The botanicals are all plant-based and the sweetener is agave syrup.
